Description
For one proud mum, the start of the new school term marks a day she thought she would never see.

Lynn Seigenberg will walk her triplets to the gate of St Mark’s Primary in Salford as they start their first day at school on Wednesday.

Four year-olds, Ethan, Logan, and Lexie are all beaming with health. But during her pregnancy Lynn was advised to abort two of her three babies, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Lynn, 36, and her husband Leon, 42, insisted they should keep all three – and against all-the-odds they were born healthy.

Lynn, manager of a nursery in Stretford, Manchester, said: “I was shell-shocked and very scared when told to abort two of my children. I was also disappointed with the professional consultant that had that view.

"How can a mother choose which of her children lives or dies? In the end our personal instinct kicked in. We had no medical proof that anything was wrong, but the consultant considered the risk higher because of my history.”

Lynn became pregnant after nine years of trying to conceive having been diagnosed with polycistic ovary syndrome, one of the leading causes of fertility problems.

The couple were offered two cycles of IVF on the NHS at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester.

Mrs Seigenberg had two eggs implanted – and she became pregnant with identical twin boys and a girl. Due to a lack of beds at St Mary’s, the triplets were delivered at Liverpool Women’s Hospital by caesarean section, with Logan weighing under 4lb.

She was told she was at risk of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a life-threatening condition which can occur in identical twins sharing the same placenta.

One twin receives an abnormally high amount of blood and nutrients, which can strain its heart, while the other becomes small and anaemic and may die.

Lynn said: “We are all very excited about the children’s first day at school. They will all be in the same reception class– they are wonderful.”
